John Romita, the artist who drew Spider-Man for decades, has passed away

Marvel Comics artist John Romita, best known for his work on The awesome Spider-Manpassed away at the age of 93.

“My father, John Romita, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday morning,” his son, John Romita Junior, also a cartoonist, wrote on Instagram. “He is a legend in the art world and I would be honored to follow in his footsteps… He was the greatest man I have ever known,” he added.

But I don’t consider myself a true creator in the sense of Jack Kirby (Co-creator of Captain America). But I’ve always had the ability to improve other people’s stories, other people’s characters. And I believe that has given me a 50 year career.

James Gunn, director of the series Guardians of the Universe of Marvel, posted a tribute on Twitter: “I am sorry to hear that the great comic artist John Romita has passed away at the age of 93,” he wrote.

Current Spider-Man writer Dan Slott also paid tribute: “I grew up with John Romita’s Spider-Man as my Spider-Man. He was one of my heroes before I even set foot in Marvel.” he said in a post on social media media. “When I was an intern[at Marvel]in the 1990s, I thought it was surreal that he was working on the team, and I was amazed when he walked the halls.”
