On the eve of going 100% hybrid, Lamborghini has never sold so many cars

During the first 6 months of the year, the Italian sports brand delivered a record number of vehicles and further improved its financial performance. Customers snapped up their thermal models ahead of the transition to the full hybrid range.

It is a brand that lives quite well the announced end of thermals in Europe. During the first 6 months of the year, Lamborghini delivered 5,341 vehicles worldwide, a new record. Last year, the Italian sports brand manufactured a total of 9,233 units, including 5,090 in the first half.

record results

Enough to reach a new billing peak from January to June 2023, with 1,421 million euros, 6.7% more. Thanks to this increase in sales, but also to a greater customization offer for customers and the success of the limited editions of its models, underlines a press release from the Audi Group. This entity of the Volkswagen group brings together the brand of the rings with Lamborghini, Bentley and Ducati.

Profit for its part increased by 7.2% to 456 million euros, with an operating margin of 32.1%. Enough to further improve its performance from last year, with a margin that has already reached 25.9%, and compete with the champions of the category, Porsche and Ferrari.

The recipe for success

Lamborghini continues to benefit from the success of its first SUV, the Urus, which has seen sales soar since its launch in 2018. With a highlight this year: it is no longer possible to order a 100% thermal version of one of these race cars. , with the hybrid eventually widespread across its range.

The brand is no longer accepting orders for a Urus equipped with a V8 and will have to wait for the launch of the hybrid version to get hold of the SUV. Same fate for the Huracán, whose electrified replacement, too, expected by the end of 2024.

A transition that doesn’t seem to repel customers: the scrambled, which replaces the Aventador, with an unprecedented hybrid architecture, combining a naturally aspirated V12 with three electric motors, has been a great success. The order book is full for two years of production, the bull brand announced at the end of July.

What to prepare for the next big step with the first 100% electric Lamborghini expected “for the second half of the decade”, a priori a little after the first Ferrari of this type, scheduled for 2025.
