Lamborghini gives a taste of its first all-electric supercar

The Italian brand has presented the Launcher concept, a 100% electric 4-seater elevated GT whose production version is announced for 2028. An important step before a first transition to hybrid.

Sports brands are also preparing to go 100% electric. While Ferrari’s first “zero emissions” model is scheduled for 2025, its main Italian competitor Lamborghini has just unveiled its Lancer concept car, which also heralds this supercharged future.

A concept presented on the occasion of Monterey Car Week, a festival that brings together prestigious automobiles in California every year.

This model adopts a raised GT silhouette, quite close to a 2+2 SUV coupé, that is, with two rather small rear seats. With elements taken from the latest Lamborghini models, the Revuelto and the Urus.

Lamborghini, for its part, does not give too many details about the performance of its concept, whose production version is expected in 2028. Until now, the brand has limited itself to mentioning “the second half of the 2020s”.

“More than a megawatt” of power

The SUV coupe should adopt an architecture with two high-power electric motors, one per axle, for permanent all-wheel drive, with power advertised at “more than one megawatt,” or more than 1,350 horsepower.

Few or very exclusive models already reach such power, such as the Aspark Owl (50 units, 2.9 million euros) which announces a power of more than 2,000 horsepower, or the Lotus Evija (130 units, 2 million euros).

If we do not yet know the prices of the standard Lancador (and if the final version will keep this name), this model should not reach such amounts.

Currently, a Tesla Model S Plaid (750 kW, or just over 1,000 horsepower) starts at 131,490 euros in France.

Before this 100% electric transition, Lamborghini plans to switch its entire range to hybrid by 2024: a transition that also has the effect of boosting sales of its latest 100% thermal models.
