Higher fuel prices, but no planned new gesture from the government. This is what Elisabeth Borne said this Wednesday during her interview with France Bleu.
“A vertiginous increase in the price of fuel is not expected”
“Indeed, fuel prices have increased compared to the beginning of July, we see them stabilizing, also on this point I would like to reassure those who fear seeing a new rise in prices”, explained the Prime Minister.
Elisabeth Borne counts in particular on the commitment of Totalenergies to keep its prices below 2 euros per liter and of the large distribution to continue its operations “at cost price” to guarantee that there are no new price increases at the pump. .
Even in the event of a rise in barrel prices, the oil group will mechanically reduce its margins, just like the big retailers, which sell fuel mainly to attract customers to stores.
Companies called to help the French
Therefore, there is no discount, as happened last year, or fuel bonus, a device that took over at the beginning of 2023.
“We have not foreseen a new fuel bond, this represented 8 billion euros in expenses [les remises carburants en 2022, ndlr] and we also need to be able to invest to support this ecological transition and move away from dependence on fossil fuels,” explained the Prime Minister.
Elisabeth Borne continues: “I invite everyone, entrepreneurs, manufacturers and also distributors, to help our compatriots overcome these times of higher inflation, while we wait for us to return to more usual levels.”
