It is a new marvel of automotive luxury and refinement offered by Rolls-Royce. The British brand has just presented “La Rose Noire”, the first jewel in a very limited series of four. A model with many references to France, as its name suggests, which is not translated into English.
French buyers?
It was enough for the British press to evoke “a couple of super-rich buyers from a glamorous dynasty in love with art, champagne and fashion” described as “heading a large international family”, with “a deep bond with France”. A thinly veiled reference to the couple formed by François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek.
The Autoevolution site mentions two other hypotheses in particular: Bernard Arnault (LVMH) or François Pinault (Kering), among the world’s most important fortunes and ticking several boxes in this composite portrait of the potential buyer.
“La Rose Noire” takes the form of a two-seater coupé-cabriolet, with removable hardtop, “inspired by romance and the black Baccara rose.” A variety of roses created in 2003 by the French breeder and producer Meilland and “particularly appreciated by the mother of the sponsoring family,” notes the Rolls-Royce press release.
rose petal marquetry
The wood used in the interior, black sycamore, also comes from France. Thus, it incorporates what Rolls-Royce presents as “the most remarkable element of this interior, the result of two years of development, intense experimentation and craft know-how”.
An exceptional piece of marquetry, made up of 1,603 wooden triangles, covers the interior, behind the seats. With an asymmetric arrangement to reproduce the effect of rose petals that would have been delicately placed in the passenger compartment. A customer request, says Rolls-Royce.
A matching champagne chest.
Another very luxurious option made at the client’s request: a champagne box to transport an exclusive vintage of Champagne de Lossy. It is embellished with wooden details with rose petal motifs “to match the color palette and materials of the car.”
Unfortunately, the introduction video for “La Rose Noire” does not feature the opening cinematic of this case, detailed below in the press release:
“At the push of a button, the champagne casket opens, revealing an intricate ensemble filled with hand-blown crystal goblets” and “two hammocks cradling bottles” of the precious nectar, kept at just the right temperature in “colored” cases. black”. Anodized aluminum and carbon fiber.”
A clock that can be integrated into the dashboard
Last detail, with what can be presented as a jewel within a jewel: a watch from the Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet.
A unique model that uses the black rose motif and can be integrated directly into the dashboard. Rolls-Royce thus evokes a support “made with a motorized closing mechanism that gently presents the watch at the push of a button.”
An estimated price of 30 million euros (or 2500 Dacia Sandero)
As usually happens with these exclusive models, the brand does not communicate the price. This was the case with Bugatti’s “La Voiture Noire”, or the previous record for the most expensive new car in the world, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, estimated at 17 and 23 million euros respectively.
For “La Rose Noire”, the estimates are based on a price of 25 million British pounds, or almost 30 million euros at the current price. An insane price, but one that is still very far from the sums that certain collection models can reach.
In May 2022, a 1955 Mercedes Coupe 300 SLR UhlenhautProduced in only two copies, it sold for 135 million euros at auction, which is still an absolute world record.
Faced with such amounts, it is sometimes difficult to realize what this represents. With the necessary budget to afford “La Rose Noire”, one could, for example, buy a Dacia Sandero 2,500, one of the cheapest new cars on the French market, starting at 11,990 euros.
