The minimum age to drive an electric scooter increases from 12 to 14 years, and infractions will be punished with higher fines starting this Friday, according to a decree published in the Official Gazette.
Fatalities related to electric scooter accidents have multiplied in recent years, according to Road Safety, prompting the government in March to announce a “National Plan to better regulate electric scooters.”
Penalize the traffic of two people
The fines range from 35 to 135 euros to penalize the circulation of two people on the same scooter or through prohibited routes, according to the decree. In Paris, the operators of self-service electric scooters ended up removing them from the streets this Thursday after five years of controversial presence, after a popular vote and a decision by the socialist city council.
Finally, the letter regarding the conditions of sale, assignment, rental and use of these machines is modified so that any sale is declared and an identification number is recorded on the scooter, according to the Official Gazette.
