The Elysée indicates this Wednesday, October 8, that Emmanuel Macron “will appoint a Prime Minister within 48 hours.” According to the Presidency, the Head of State “has taken note of the conclusions” of the resigned Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, whom he “thanks”.
The Head of State observes a “majority of deputies against the dissolution, the existence of a platform of stability and a possible way to approve a budget before December 31.”
Emmanuel Macron had ordered Sébastien Lecornu to “hold final talks with the political forces” before Wednesday afternoon after his resignation. He “will assume his responsibilities” in the event of failure of the negotiations, BFMTV then learned from those around him.
Towards an eighth Prime Minister
This Thursday afternoon, Emmanuel Macron will preside over the entrance ceremony of Robert Badinter into the Pantheon. On France 2, Sébastien Lecornu had already mentioned the appointment of a Prime Minister within 48 hours, specifying that “it is up to the Head of State to carry out the final negotiations” to find a successor.
The resigning Prime Minister also announced that a draft budget will be presented this Monday. A “not perfect” text that “will be the subject of debate”, according to Sébastien Lecornu.
After Édouard Philippe, Jean Castex, Élisabeth Borne, Gabriel Attal, Michel Barnier, François Bayrou and Sébastien Lecornu, Emmanuel Macron must now work on the appointment of an eighth head of government, since he came to power in 2017.
