Among the most expensive expenses for the French, the car is obviously at the top of the basket. Given the context of scarcity of materials and inflation, the cost of repairs or refueling at the pump weighs more on purchasing power.
To make matters worse, the deadlines to carry out the technical control of your vehicle are increasingly longer. If this situation is quite common at this time of return from the holidays, another phenomenon aggravates the problem: the general shortage of manpower.
A diploma requirement that accentuates the recruitment problem
“In general, we make an appointment within a maximum period of 15 days,” explains this employee of a CTS group car workshop. “Unfortunately today we have a person on sick leave and Yohan works Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings, plus he works almost 45 hours a week or even more,” Quentin Monnier, CTS group sales director, told BFMTV.
This group of about thirty centers has been looking for five people for a year and a half, a recruitment difficulty that is partly explained by a change decided in 2018 by the government in terms of training professionals in the sector.
“Before, with a simple CAP of automobile mechanic or bodybuilder, it was possible to access the profession, now it is mandatory Bac pro auto mechanic and Bac pro industrial mechanic.”
With the arrival of the mandatory technical inspections for two-wheeled vehicles in 2024, the saturation of the sector will not improve, further extending the deadlines.
