The 25,000 euro Tesla will soon be produced at the Berlin factory

Elon Musk has indicated that the future affordable Tesla will be produced in the Berlin factory. An announcement that is causing a lot of talk about this 25,000 euro model expected since 2020 and that could be launched within two years.

Elon Musk visited the Tesla factory in Berlin last Friday and talked about the future 25,000 euro car. A highly anticipated model, while the new Model 3 has a current price starting at 42,990 euros in France (bonuses not included).

A Model 2 made in Berlin

The big surprise is that the head of Tesla announced that this affordable model will be produced in Berlin. Until now, rumors focused more on the American brand’s future factory in Mexico, where production costs would have allowed it to achieve this very competitive price objective.

It is difficult to say much more: Tesla did not publish a press release after this visit and Elon Musk’s comments are reported by those present, without really more details about this future model, often nicknamed “Tesla Model 2”, “Model A”. or even “next-generation Tesla.”

It was in 2020, during a “Battery Day”, that this model was mentioned, “an electric vehicle that costs less than a thermal car”, with a target price of $25,000.

A “cool” but basic Tesla

Elon Musk broached the topic again recently, during a third-quarter earnings call at the end of last October. In comparison to the exuberant Cybertruck that Tesla is preparing to launch in the United States, the head of the brand had mentioned a “much more conventional low-cost vehicle with large production volumes”, without committing to a launch and marketing date, which is now expected at least by 2025.

A “cool” and “beautiful” model, but above all it will be pragmatic enough “to transport you from point A to point B” with a simplified design to reduce production costs as much as possible, the InsideEvs site also reported.

Race towards affordable electricity

As Europe aims for 100% electric sales by 2035, several manufacturers have accelerated their investments to offer models at affordable prices in the short term, in particular to confront Tesla and the arrival of Chinese models, such as the MG4 or BYD cars.

Renault and Volkswagen in particular, with the future R5 and ID.2, but also Fiat with the future Panda.

Citroën also dealt a hard blow by presenting its new C3 last month, which will begin its journey next spring for less than 24,000 euros, before bonuses, and finally with a version with reduced autonomy for less than 20,000 euros.
