Who will succeed the Jeep Avenger? The seven finalists for the Car of the Year 2024 election have just been revealed. Among the 28 models in competition, the jury made up of 59 journalists representing 22 countries selected the BWM Series 5, the BYD Seal, the Kia EV9, the Peugeot 3008, the Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric, the Toyota C-HR and the Volvo EX30. The successor to the Jeep Avenger will be revealed in three months at the Geneva International Motor Show, from February 26 to March 3.
The two French representatives are the first two electric family cars sold on the market, the Peugeot available in three electric versions and two electrified gasoline versions.
Predominant role of electric models and SUVs
Electric vehicles and SUVs and crossovers constitute the two big trends in this Car of the Year 2024 final, such as the small Volvo EX30 SUV whose production will no longer be limited to China and will arrive in Europe from 2025 or even the KIA EV9, a much larger model that has a battery of almost 100 kWh.
In addition to the SUVs and crossovers, there are two sedans including the BYD Seal and, above all, the BMW 5 Series, whose eighth generation is available in electric or electrified versions while the thermal range has four engines. Among the seven finalists, only the Toyota C-HR crossover does not have an electric version, being limited to two hybrid versions and one plug-in hybrid.
