Dacia renews the Duster. The manufacturer presents the third generation of this SUV that, in 2010, propelled Dacia into a new era, that of the family car. In total, Dacia sold 2.2 million Dusters during the first two generations.
The launch of this new version is therefore a crucial moment in the commercial decade of the Romanian manufacturer, which is repositioning itself a little higher.
A new design
This new Duster is intended to be very angular, with many edges in the design, enough to improve the perceived quality of the vehicle’s exterior design. The Duster noticeably uses the waistline already seen on the Jogger. The SUV also shares the Renault group’s platform, CMF-B, with the latter but also with the best-selling Sandero.
Another striking element in the design of this new model: the “Y”-shaped light signature on the back.
Hybrid engines
This platform will notably allow the Duster to adopt hybrid engines. It will include a 94-horsepower 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine coupled to two electric motors (“a 49-horsepower motor and a high-voltage starter/generator,” the press release specifies) and a 1.2-liter block TCe 130 coupled to a 48V battery. The Duster will also be available with a dual fuel gasoline and LPG system. Of course, all-wheel drive will be available in this new generation.
The changes are also found in the cabin, with a more spacious interior, a more refined design and above all a vehicle that aspires to be more connected. This new Duster has in particular a 10.1-inch touch screen and “Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity,” the brand specifies in its press release. The new Duster also has a customizable digital dashboard.
Dacia, however, does not deviate from one of these specificities: only offering a location for the smartphone as infotainment support.
Dacia has not yet revealed the price of this new generation. According to L’Argus, the Duster could have a starting price of less than 20,000 euros, but hybrid versions could sell for around 26,000 euros.
