It will surely be one of the stars of the Geneva Motor Show. On February 26, Renault will present its new electric R5 there, almost three years after the presentation of a concept that had great success with the public.
A good one… into the unknown?
An original initiative, the diamond brand offers the “R5 R Pass” for 150 euros: a good system without queues that will allow customers to reserve their R5 as a priority when orders are opened.
An offer offered in 7 countries, France of course, but also Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
But what does this pass really allow? Customers who have this pass will be able to “in preview, i.e. 10 days before the opening of general public orders” order their R5.
However, you will have to go to a dealer: “you will select the dealer of your preference. He will contact you to make an appointment (…). They will validate together the configuration of your Renault 5 to confirm your order” he summarizes Renault in the frequently asked questions of this service.
Therefore, an order that will be delivered exclusively in the fall of 2024, but that will not apply to the basic R5, which is expected to cost around 25,000 euros.
In fact, Renault specifies that this voucher will be valid to purchase the R5 equipped with the 52 kWh battery, the price of which we still do not know. The version starting at 25,000 euros will be equipped with a 40 kWh battery.
Interesting point: Renault promises information “previews and invitations to events to know everything about the Renault 5 and see it in real life before everyone else.” Basically, if you don’t know exactly what you can buy with this pass, at least you will know a little more before confirming your purchase or not. Why not?
A miniature R5 to wait for
Renault specifies that this pass “is a service independent of the purchase of the vehicle, the amount of which is not refunded or deducted from the price of the vehicle or any other service linked to the vehicle.”
It is surprising when we know that, at Tesla for example, the reservation bonus for the Tesla Cybertruck was 100 euros, fully refundable and a priori discounted from the purchase price. Although we are far from the prices expected for the R5 after this week’s announcements about the American brand’s first extraordinary pick-up.
However, Renault should not turn this activity into a profitable activity. Of the 150 euros, 50 euros are already donated to its “Dame 5” program. A “Social responsibility project dedicated to young generations helps promote access to sports practice.”
The voucher also gives access to a nice gift: “before having it in your garage, receive a 1/43 miniature of a 100% electric Renault 5 E-Tech.” The image shows the concept (whose miniature currently costs 65 euros in the Renault Store), but it will effectively be the production R5. And so after its presentation on February 26.
