The latest report from the National Interministerial Observatory for Road Safety (ONISR) causes chills. In November 2023, road mortality increased by 16% compared to November 2022. In October, the increase was only 4%.
Motorists paid the highest price with 148 dead and 412 seriously injured. Pedestrians reported 56 deaths and 219 serious injuries. They are followed by users of motorized two-wheeled vehicles (33 dead and 302 seriously injured), cyclists (16 dead and 143 injured) and EPDm (scooters), with one dead and 55 seriously injured.
5% drop since January
Despite this peak in November, the number of deaths has decreased by -5% compared to the first 11 months of the year. Mortality among young adults (18-24 years old) has decreased again in the last 12 months: 492 young people have died, that is, -10% compared to the previous 12 months, and also -10% compared to 2019.
The mortality of people aged 65 or over stands at 873 people who died in the last 12 months, -1% less than in the previous 12 months and +3% more than in 2019.
ONISR warns for the month of December and warns users not to take risks at the end of December during the end of the year celebrations.
