A one-off fuel subsidy of 100 euros, like this year, is what the Economy Minister agrees to pay to motorists who use their car to go to work, if their income is not high enough to easily cope with a new increase. in fuel prices.
However, the payment of this aid will be conditional. Bruno Le Maire will only take out his checkbook if prices skyrocket again.
“The last time we started it when fuel reached 1.95 euros, which seems like a reasonable threshold to me,” he explained this Thursday on BFMTV.
On the other hand, if this “reasonable threshold” were exceeded, the aid would benefit a greater number of motorists than this year. The income limits to receive these 100 euros have been revised upwards so that a larger part of the middle class can benefit from them.
New eligibility criteria
This year, only half of the workers were potentially eligible. The total number of motorists who reported using their car to go to work was limited to 4.3 million.
With the new limits established based on the reference tax income, a single person without children who earns up to 1,599 euros net per month will be able to benefit from it. Like a mother who raises a child alone whose income does not exceed 3,298 euros. And the larger the family, the higher the ceiling. 4,797 euros per month for a couple with two children, 6,396 euros for a family of five…
In Bercy, it is estimated that this increase in the maximum limit could increase the number of beneficiaries up to six million, which represents a maximum cost for the State of 600 million euros.
