100 euros per month to buy an electric car. The measure announced by Emmanuel Macron is enough to make customers who have insufficient budget dream and manufacturers who seek to seduce them. In an interview granted to Les Echos, the Head of State confirmed this measure. It assumes a budget of 50 million euros per year for 100,000 vehicles. He also specified a schedule.
“Pre-orders will be placed in the second half of 2023, for delivery in early 2024”, specifies Emmanuel Macron.
To benefit from it, many will be called and few will be chosen, both in the models and in the public affected by this measure. It is aimed mainly at those who own a vehicle eligible for the conversion bonus, whether it is a diesel model prior to 2011 or a gasoline model prior to 2006. This measure is also aimed at the most modest households subject to verification of resources, young people and with few professions, including health professions providing home care.
European preference?
In addition, these are not premium brands like Tesla, but small and economical city cars. Among the models in question, the peugeot e-208, the Opel Corsa-e, the Dacia Spring, the electric Twingo or the electric Fiat 500. But beware, a European production criterion could also be imposed, which would influence the list of affected vehicles. Built in China, the Dacia Spring, France’s best-selling new electric car, may not be one of them.
To attract customers, manufacturers are developing offers. This summer, Stellantis (Peugeot, Citroën, Opel) announced the “Electric as you go” program. The idea of this rental device is to lower the entrance ticket (the famous first rental) and the monthly fees with a usage-based approach.
This offer is based on a 24 month lease. The first rent of 10,500 euros is reduced to 2,000 euros after deduction of the ecological bonus and the conversion bonus of 2,500 euros. So, the monthly fee is set at 150 euros.
At the Paris Motor Show, other manufacturers could unveil offers.
