Mondial de l’Auto: a buggy to embody the future of Dacia

At the Paris Motor Show, Dacia presents its new logo and its “Manifesto” concept, a futuristic buggy that is not destined for production, but reflects the ambitions of the Renault group’s brand to go from “low-cost” to “essential but great”. “.

This is the other logo change of an almost French brand. After Renault, Peugeot and, more recently, Citroën, Dacia is also renewing its visual identity.

A sharper logo

But where these tricolor manufacturers pay homage to their past, the Romanian brand of the Renault group adopts a very modern logo, with the “D” and “C” for Dacia forming the link of a chain. The full name of the brand also receives a facelift with an original typography of tense lines, which breaks with the previous spelling, all in roundness. A new identity that we actually discovered at the beginning of 2021 in the Bigster concept, or Dacia’s future large SUV scheduled for 2025 and which unfortunately will not be at the Paris Motor Show.

A change that Dacia has been applying to its entire range since this summer, while other brands, in general, are waiting for model renewals to place their new logo.

Enough to embody a certain dynamism: during an event organized in September before the Paris Motor Show, Denis Le Vot, head of the brand, recalled that the “low-cost” brand had become the brand with the “best value price quality”. , with a new slogan “essential but cool”.

A way of seeing the current changes in society as an opportunity to sell a “simple” car, but one that satisfies the mobility and escape needs of its users. This is demonstrated by its success, mainly in Europe, with 7.5 million vehicles sold in 18 years. Dacia has established itself as the 3rd best-selling brand to individuals on the continent with two flagship models: the Sandero, number one among these buyers, and the Duster, the best-selling SUV.

“Manifesto”, or the futuristic buggy

What better way to embody this desire for mobility and evasion than a buggy, which seems made to take on the most hostile of territories…even a post-apocalypse planet, hopefully not Earth. This is what Dacia has chosen, with its “Manifesto” concept, which does not intend to go into production but is essential as a manifesto for the orientation of the brand’s future models.

A very compact format, 3.60 meters long, to carry only “the essentials”, but a “cool” look with the absence of doors and windshield: the new slogan is respected.

Surprising detail for an off-road model, there is no spare wheel on the roof rack and for good reason, the four “flat” tires are puncture-proof.

Despite this surreal side, this concept discreetly conveys upcoming Dacia innovations. The displayed message: a brand that no longer simply wants to be inspired by the components of its parent company Renault, but rather clearly show a certain originality, which is found particularly in the interior.

The interior includes, for example, seats, the cover of which can be opened to become a sleeping bag. The same goes for the center console, topped by a kit that can be taken on board for your trek or rescue mission.

But beyond these more or less crazy ideas, this interior is completely washable with a water jet, with drainage planned on the floor and suitable materials. Dacia wants to improve the “cleanability” of its interiors, which a priori will be the case with a very fashionable new “exterior” Xtrem finish, which will be implemented across the range next year.

At the level of the steering wheel, a simple screen that shows the speed, the rest is on your smartphone, well secured in a support intended for this purpose. Thus we find the concept “BYOD” (for “bring your own device”) introduced in the latest Sandero and that should also evolve in the future. Why, for example, reserve this “Media Control” only for the entry level versions of the models? Whereas a technophile audience with the latest phone might find more interest in it than finding a screen in its high-end Dacia. Subject to follow.

Chrome and leather finish and new materials

The use of cork on the dashboard allows a handwritten note or IGN map to be affixed to its side, a nice contrast to the modern GPS navigation you will find on your smartphone.

New materials such as recycled plastic are also highlighted in the concept. It will be used more and more inside but also outside of Dacia models. We already found 12% on a 2022 Duster and the goal is to get to 20% in the short term. Another Dacia commitment: the removal of leather and chrome within 24 months.
