Electric cars: Stellantis big winner in social leasing?

The Stellantis group would supply 80% of the 25,000 vehicles promised by the government within the framework of social leasing, indicates Les Echos.

In a hurry for low-rent electric cars? The beginning of the year marked the launch of “social leasing”, this government system that allows models to be offered for long-term rental or with the option to buy to active, heavy and low-income drivers.

Stellantis should cover 80% of demand

Although nearly 80,000 applications have already been submitted, initially only 25,000 people will be able to benefit from it. That is why Citroën, for example, has just opened orders for its new ë-C3, so as not to miss the train of these first requests and a relatively limited stock for this new device.

But the game would already be decided in this first tour, with the commitment of the Stellantis group to provide 20,000 vehicles within the framework of this system, that is, 80% of the planned volume, underlines an article in Les Echos.

2024, the year of the electric car? – 02/01

Among the eligible models we find numerous Stellantis models: the Peugeot e-208 and e-2008, the Fiat 500e and 600e, the Opel Mokka and Corsa Electric, the Jeep Avenger or even the Citroën ë-C4 and ë-C3.

Renault, for its part, only offers the Twingo (it is true that with the most attractive rental at 40 euros per month) and the Mégane e-Tech.

A good size device?

For Stellantis, the idea would be, in particular, to regain color in the French market, after having lost 3.7 points of market share last year “in a context of the end of end-of-cycle models and logistical and commercial problems” , points out Los Ecos.

However, in view of the 80,000 applications submitted, it is worth wondering if the State will not offer other social rental models this year.

“We had actually reserved 25,000 vehicles and I can tell you that I contacted the manufacturers again. Stellantis confirmed to me that they were willing to provide additional vehicles if the French kept their promise,” declared in particular the Minister of Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier. Runacher. at the beginning of the week.

However, it is difficult to know if the 80,000 files correspond to eligible people. It is not certain, there are many criteria to choose from and even if the government would like to extend social leasing to all households with a reference tax income of less than 15,400 euros. And not just those who, among them, are active high rollers.

Above all, the system seems to be of a good size at the moment, if we compare it with the figures for the increase in the bonus, reserved for all the “less well-off” households, not only for the most benefited:

“Last year we registered 28,000 sales of ‘subsidized’ electric cars to households in income deciles 1 to 5, corresponding to the social criterion of leasing at 100 euros,” a government source explained to Les Echos.

A series of bonuses of 7,000 euros (compared to 5,000 euros without income conditions) that had not yet been communicated and that represent just under 10% of sales of new electric cars last year.
