The increase was especially strong in Paris, Toulouse, Chambéry and Saint-Germain. Nazaire. .
After a period after the health crisis in which cycling rates increased significantly everywhere, the results “today differ depending on the environments and periods observed”, specifies the association, which produces this barometer with the support of Ademe and of the Ministry of Transportation. During the week and in urban areas, the number of registered bicycle crossings increases by 7% and 6% respectively compared to 2022.
Work or school trips
At the same time, attendance on weekends and in peri-urban and rural areas is stagnating. In other words, national practice “progresses thanks to utilitarian practice”, when traveling to work or school, notes Vélo & Territoires.
This analysis is based on a national sample of 308 roadside meters. They are representative of the 1,500 counters of the National Assistance Platform, which is due to publish a complete barometer in the spring. In detail, the counters record 1,345 steps per day on average in urban areas compared to 216 in peri-urban areas and 133 in rural areas.
