Contamination can be done by water or respiratory route, through micro-greets suspended in the air. The disease is not contagious from person to person.

The New York City Health Department reminded buildings of buildings to their obligation to guarantee the good maintenance of their air conditioning systems to prevent proliferating bacteria.

The disease takes its name from the first known cases, which had been declared in 1976 in a hotel in Philadelphia, where the Association of Veterans of the American Legion held a conference. Thirty -four people died.
