30% of the French consider buying an electric car and 54% a hybrid, according to a survey published this Thursday by the Odoxa Institute.
Beyond the cost (72%), the lack of autonomy (53%) and charging stations (37%) are the main obstacles to buying an electric car, according to this survey carried out for the firms Kea & Partners and Mascaret (previously Dentsu Consulting), Stratégies magazine, BFM Business and Usine Digitale.
Only 12% of the French say they are “stuck” to thermal vehicles. For 63% of them, the hydrogen vehicle, still marginal at present, is also perceived as a serious alternative to thermal vehicles.
This implies that with the right infrastructure (availability of charging stations), the right technologies (better battery life) and financial incentives, France can achieve its ambitions to limit emissions related to the use of motor vehicles. Fabrice Catala, partner of the Kea group.
Among technology professionals, questioned in more detail, and generally more urban and wealthy, the interest is broader: 45% have considered buying an electric vehicle and 60% a hybrid.
If cars are becoming more expensive to buy and use, only 22% of French people say they are willing to give up car ownership.
Half of the employees surveyed work in a company that promotes more eco-responsible mobility, either by bicycle or carpool. 19% of employees have been offered a sustainable mobility package.
This survey was conducted online in early October with a sample of 1,000 French people and 304 technology, digital and innovation professionals, using the quota method.
