BYD also plans to present its first plug-in hybrid car for the European market in Geneva, based on its Seal U electric SUV.
Its U8 SUV, which deploys nearly 1,200 horsepower and is positioned as a competitor to the largest Land Rover or Mercedes, combines an electric motor in each of its wheels with a gasoline engine that recharges its batteries, like what Nissan offers with its “E- Energy Technology.
The U8 has already caused a sensation on social media with its ability to float on water and its differential steering: it allows you to turn the left and right wheels in opposite directions and therefore perform a trick easily and evenly. BYD will also showcase a new SUV under the Denza brand, its joint venture with Mercedes.
BYD has already marketed six 100% electric models since its launch in Europe, the Atto 3 SUV, a rival to the Tesla Model Y, the compact Dolphin, or its 7-seater Tang SUV.
The group, which sold around ten thousand cars in Europe in 2023, plans to open a car factory in Hungary within three years, where it already assembles electric buses.
