LIVE. New electric R5, Car of the year: the Geneva Motor Show opens this Monday

This Monday morning the Car of the Year 2024 award will be presented at the show, after voting by a panel of European journalists. Seven cars are in the final, including two French models: the Renault Scénic and the Peugeot 3008.

Also competing are the BMW 5 Series, Kia EV9, Volvo EX30, BYD Seal and Toyota C-HR.

This 2024 edition, however, is still mixed with numerous absentees such as the Stellantis group brands, Volkswagen or even luxury manufacturers such as Ferrari or Rolls-Royce. Audi, BMW, Mercedes have also passed their turn in a context where expenses linked to this type of event are increasingly reduced among brands.

In addition to the Renault group, the new features that will be discovered will come from Chinese brands. The manufacturer MG will thus present the MG3, a small compact hybrid that rivals the Peugeot 208 and the Renault Clio.

The world leader in electric cars BYD will also be present, with its premium brands Yangwang and Denza.

Although neither Peugeot nor Citroën made the trip, the star of the show will of course be the new R5. Renault will reveal it with great fanfare by Renault during a press conference at 9:30 a.m.

The French group will also present the new version of the small urban Spring, 100% electric.
