Volvo has produced its latest diesel vehicle

The Swedish brand, belonging to the Chinese group Geely, definitively turns its back on Diesel with a latest XC90 that leaves the factory this week.

It is a strong symbol for one of the (many) brands to opt for 100% electric. Volvo produced its latest diesel vehicle this week.

On Facebook, the Swedish brand, belonging to the Chinese group Geely, shared photographs of this “historic moment” with a last diesel XC90 leaving the factory at the Torslanda factory, in the municipality of Gothenburg.

For the occasion, Volvo brought together this latest model with one of its first cars to run on diesel, a 244.

“This event marks an important milestone in the 97-year history of our company. With this decision, we are taking a giant step towards our ambitions to become an all-electric car manufacturer and achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions for 2040,” Volvo wrote. in this Facebook post.

An engine losing speed

While it still accounted for almost one in two sales in Europe in 2017, diesel continues to decline in the new car market. In 2023, a strong symbol, the market share of 100% electric vehicles will have surpassed that of diesel. Consequence of Europe’s decision to ban the sales of new thermal cars from 2035 and that many large cities are gradually banning the circulation of the most polluting vehicles.

This last XC90 Diesel produced is not destined for a customer, but for the “World of Volvo” museum that will open in Gothenburg on April 14.
