Automobile: Renault, Stellantis and BMW will participate in the Paris Motor Show

In recent years, many manufacturers have decided not to attend auto shows anymore, citing savings plans. Some opted for online presentations.

BMW will participate in the 90th Paris World Motor Show in October 2024 together with Renault and Stellantis, the German group announced on Thursday. The manufacturer abstained from the 2022 edition, in favor of the Munich show, the city where its headquarters are located.

BMW and its Mini brand plan to present their “latest advances in innovation, design and electromobility” in Paris, the group said in a press release. Renault will also be present at the Mondial, from October 14 to 20 at the Porte de Versailles, south of Paris, with its Dacia and Alpine brands.

Some presences still uncertain

Stellantis plans to present new products from its French brands (Peugeot, Citroën and DS). The group’s other brands could be present “depending on the developments in their products,” a spokesperson told AFP. The Korean Kia will also be present during this 2024 edition while Hyundai continues to hesitate, like Toyota.

European leader Volkswagen has not yet made a decision, but some of its brands could be present with its French distributors, according to a spokesperson.

The Chinese brands BYD and MG, in full electric offensive and which were among the only ones present with Renault at the Geneva Motor Show at the end of February, have not yet decided on their arrival in Paris either.

Snubbed classrooms

In recent years, many manufacturers have snubbed trade shows, citing savings plans because stands are expensive, or have adopted online presentations, the development of which has been accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Some brands organize their own events to present their ranges, such as Toyota in Brussels at the end of November.

Both the Paris Motor Show and the Munich mobility fair have tried to renew their offer to unite visitors around the automobile, which is blamed for global warming. Paris became smaller in 2022, but with greater emphasis on brands, pitting Renault and Stellantis against Chinese brands, while Munich put an emphasis on electromobility.
