The Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, summoned the president of the board of directors of Renault, Jean-Dominique Senard, to court on Tuesday, April 2, indicated the Nanterre prosecutor’s office, confirming the information from Nouvel Obs.
The reasons given are obstruction of justice and failure to testify on behalf of an innocent person, in the context of the Carlos Ghosn case, in which the minister is charged.
Rachida Dati submitted a request to the Nanterre Criminal Court through the so-called “direct summons” procedure for Jean-Dominique Senard to appear on May 23.
In this act, cited by Le Nouvel Obs, the Minister’s lawyer accuses Jean-Dominique Senard of having “hidden and caused to be hidden from French justice essential documents that could exonerate Madame Rachida Dati of the crimes with which she is accused.”
Accusation in the Carlos Ghosn matter
Nicolas Sarkozy’s former Minister of Justice and former European MP is accused of corruption and passive influence peddling by a person with an elective public mandate since July 2021, in the investigation into contracts concluded by a subsidiary of Renault-Nissan when Carlos Ghosn He was its general director.
In the quote, Rachida Dati’s lawyer states that “the objective pursued by Jean-Dominique Senard was to inundate Carlos Ghosn with a general desire to denigrate and criticize the elections of his predecessor”, with “a clear desire to remain silent, “aimed at artificially overwhelming Madame Rachida Dati to catch up with Carlos Ghosn.”
The “serene” Renault boss
“Mr. Senard is calm about this new action, which is not unfounded in fact or law,” reacted Antonin Levy, lawyer for the president of the board of directors of Renault.
“Since taking office, the company has fully cooperated with the judicial authorities and has responded to all requests made by them aimed at obtaining documents allowing the judge to form an opinion on Madame Dati’s activities,” the council added.
Contacted by AFP, Rachida Dati’s lawyer did not immediately react.
