Pump discounts: the calendar until the end of the year

While fuel prices have started to rise again, motorists are concerned about the scheduled end of rebates.

As gasoline returns to stations, with prices rising sharply again, motorists are closely watching government and tanker announcements about rebates at gas stations. A small calendar update for the next few weeks.

The 30-cent discount is extended until November 15

The bonus of 30 euro cents from the Government that applies from September 1 is finally maintained until November 15 (instead of November 1 of the initial calendar), as announced by Elisabeth Borne on October 16. On this date, the discount will be reduced to 10 cents until December 31.

This is to avoid an additional influx at the pump in the middle of the All Saints holidays. So, warned the Government, except in exceptional circumstances, this discount will disappear.

In parallel with the government discount, the TotalEnergies discount (ie an additional 20 euro cents), will also be extended at the government’s request until mid-November before being reduced to 10 cents until the end of the year.

The end of the sales on December 31

However, since these announcements, the government has worked to defuse any desire to extend refunds beyond December 31. “That the President of the Government decides to extend it for 15 days because there have been difficulties and that there are still difficulties at the service stations, everyone can understand that. But the whole world will also understand that we cannot stop permanently maintaining a measure that is also an incentive to consume fuels, including fossil fuels, which is a subsidy for fossil fuels”, quickly underlined Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy and Finance.

A position successively recalled in recent days by Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister of Energy Transition, and Clément Beaune, Minister of Transport.

“We will not go back on the end of this fuel discount on December 31,” Agnès Pannier-Runacher said on BFMTV this Sunday.

Towards more specific help?

However, the government had indicated in mid-October that another device, more aimed at populations that really depend on their car to get to work, could succeed the current discount. This benefits all motorists regardless of their income or how often they use their car.

“If prices skyrocket it can always happen, we plan in 2023 to help our compatriots who take their car to go to work. They can be doctors, liberal professions, employees and it will be directed help and nothing more”, Then the Bercy tenant explained. This aid must be covered with an allocation of 1,700 million euros according to Bercy.
