The Paris Motor Show attracted 400,000 visitors this year, compared with one million in 2018, the show’s organizer announced on Monday, a day after it closed.
A 2022 edition in just seven days
“This assistance exceeds the initial objectives set, for a fair that now takes place for seven days (instead of 13 in previous editions)”, specified the Hopscotch agency, which organized this 89th edition together with the Automotive Platform (PFA) .
After four years of absence due to Covid, the Mondial de l’auto presented a reduced edition this year, in the absence of many groups such as the brands of the Volkswagen group (Skoda, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Seat… ), BMW-Mini or even Mercedes. There were also no Japanese or Korean manufacturers.
At the fair, together with Renault, which presented its new 4L in the form of a concept car, and the Stellantis group (Peugeot-DS-Jeep), Chinese manufacturers such as WEY or BYD were majestically present with their electric cars and great ambitions in the European market. . Several banks also offered their long-term rental deals.
In the absence of many manufacturers, many visitors spent time at the stands of YouTubers from the Vilebrequin channel, as well as at a charity stand featuring sports cars. Stand where Extinction Rebellion activists held an action on Friday at the end of the day.
Towards a 90th edition in 2024
Hopscotch, however, confirmed on Monday that a 90th edition of the show was scheduled for October 2024. The organizer invited professionals to “join the reflection” in the coming weeks to “think about this future edition in an expanded way” .
Like the shows in Geneva (canceled three times and to be held in Qatar in 2023) or Detroit (which has been scaled back), the Mondial continues to find its way, while the auto industry is in the throes of a costly shift to an electric future. and that manufacturers have become accustomed to online events.
In 2021, the Munich show opened to other forms of mobility, such as bicycles and electric scooters, while the Paris show decided to accept only a few two-wheelers.
Hopscotch clarified that 60% of the visitors this year came from Ile-de-France, while previously “most visitors came from the provinces”: the latter would have been “penalized by the fuel crisis” and would have “preferred to resign his visit to Paris”, according to the organizer
