The May holidays often rhyme with bridges and bridges, but also with traffic jams and stranded cars. The succession of May 8 and Ascension Thursday offers a particularly long weekend for the French this year. Several days of respite in a row lead to “many trips around the metropolis,” warns Bison Futé.
After Tuesday, May 7, was classified as red, the Ministry of Transport service foresees an orange day for Saturday and again red for Sunday. Worse still, in certain regions, such as the North and the Far West, Bison Futé even sees black, a color synonymous with “extremely difficult” traffic.
All major roads in the country should be affected. And in particular the routes that link the coast with the big cities. Therefore, congestion is expected from Saturday in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (A7), in the Mediterranean Arc (A8 and A9) and at the northern borders (A25). While traffic will be very dense from late morning in Île-de-France, on the A10 and A6 motorways.
A10 very congested, reopening of the A13 towards Paris
On Sunday, the return to the cities risks generating “traffic jams and delays” from mid-morning and “until late at night”, particularly on the Atlantic coast (N165), in the Normandy region (A84 and A13) , in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (A7, N205) and on the routes serving the Mediterranean coast (A9, A61).
In Ile-de-France, traffic will remain heavy on several motorways (A10, A6 and A13), from late morning to late afternoon. The A10, which links Bordeaux with Paris, should be especially affected.
In addition, the A13, closed to traffic since April 19 due to a large crack in the road, should be reopened this Friday in the Normandy-Paris direction.
