While some brands often carry out “mass recalls” of vehicles, this is not the case with the one Dacia currently operates.
A worrying airbag problem
It’s hard to guess at first glance. On Friday, May 10, an information sheet was published on the website of the public service Rappel Conso. This platform flags potentially dangerous products. As is usually the case, this sheet is based on the one published a little earlier by “Safety Gate”, the equivalent of Rappel Conso at the European level.
The reason for this withdrawal may be legitimately concerning. “The left curtain airbags may be defective. In the event of an accident, they may cause excessive internal pressure and a more powerful detonation than expected. This may cause injuries to the vehicle occupants,” he says.
Worrying, especially when we know that it is a very popular model, which sold more than 2.5 million copies, mainly in Europe, before the current launch of the third generation. In this case it is only the Duster II, but we are still talking about more than 200,000 vehicles sold in France.
A single failed model
If “contact dealer” is recommended, there is, a priori, little (bad) chance of being affected. When we contacted, Dacia explained to us that the problem had been identified and that it only affected one day of production at the Pitești factory in Romania.
That day, 356 units were assembled and only one example of this defective airbag curtain was installed. And of this production as of July 21, 2022, only 11 examples headed to France. The rest were sold in Croatia, Denmark or Portugal, the other countries mentioned in the European recall sheet.
The 11 French customers, who may have also resold their vehicle, were notified by registered mail. The intervention, covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, must last a maximum of 2 hours in the workshop.
