In July, BMW finished number one in electric car sales in Europe for the first time. According to figures from Jato Dynamics, the Bavarian brand sold 14,869 zero-emission vehicles, slightly ahead of Tesla.
With 14,561 sales, the American brand finished second, just 308 units behind BMW.
Another German brand, Volkswagen, completes the podium with 12,213 sales of 100% electric cars.
BMW’s first model ranks sixth
Looking at the most popular models, the Tesla Model Y is still the leader in July, with 9,544 sales. It is ahead of the Volvo EX30 and the Volkswagen ID.4, with 6,573 and 5,295 units sold respectively.
BMW’s top model is only in sixth place, the iX1 (4,305 sales), just ahead of the BMW i4 (4,198 sales).
During the first six months of the year, the Tesla Model Y was the undisputed market leader in Europe, with 101,181 sales, far ahead of the Tesla Model 3, with 58,400 units.
