All eyes are now riveted in Chavegrand cheese dairy. Based in La Creuse, this company produced complete cheeses retired due to possible contamination by bacteria Listeria monocytenes.
In total, around forty cheeses with pasteurized milk marketed until August 9 and 21 cases of Listeriosis would possibly be linked to these contamination suspicions, including two mortals.
In Dun-Le-Palestel (Creuse), Roger regularly consumes cheeses from the Chavegrand factory. “I buy Camembert, but I don’t hide you that I threw it this morning. I was afraid, I threw it. What’s happening? Nobody knows.”
A first wave of reminders in June
However, the Ministry of Agriculture told BFMTV that the first case of contamination of a Listeria cheese was detected in the Creuse company on June 12. What to question some: Pollution was avoidable?
In mid -June, Chavegrand had already made a first product reminder. “As soon as Listeria detected, the company did what to do,” says Amalia Bismuth, director of JMB consultants and health security experts.
“She eliminated all the products and has multiplied the controls. There was surely disinfection and other controls. The controls were negative, it was not worth going much further,” he explains.
However, almost two months after the facts, recent cases of human pollution revealed a bacterium with the same genetic identity card as that of June 12. The wave of mass reminders was, therefore, according to the Ministry, a “precaution”.
Without “health scandal”
And although the withdrawal of all these cheeses worries consumers, the situation is quite common according to Brigitte Glass, a product reminder specialist. “Nothing allows us to say that we face a health scandal”, Mata the head of the “Product Reminders” section for 60 million consumers. “It is not a company, apart from mid -June, which often published reminders. I had never seen it.”
It remains to be determined the origin of this pollution. Among the planned tracks, the use of a manufacturing line during closure or poor products space.
The 21 contaminated people are between 34 and 95, while, between the two victims, one had “underlying pathologies.” People who would have consumed one of the cheeses withdrawn from the market and who would have fever, isolated or accompanied by headache and pains are invited to consult their doctor trying by informing this consumption.
