“We need the Tomahawks”: in front of Zelensky, Donald Trump disagrees with the delivery of missiles

US President Donald Trump suggested it would be premature to supply Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles during President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the White House.

Donald Trump seems to have changed his mind. After being open to the delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine at the beginning of the week, it started this Friday, October 17 in the presence of Volodymyr Zelensky, received this Friday, October 17 in Washington. The latter came to convince the American president to give him these long-range missiles.

“I hope they don’t need it. I hope we can end the war without having to think about Tomahawks,” Trump said. “It is not just a question of money, but we need the Tomahawks and other weapons that we send to Ukraine. This is also the reason why we want this war to end,” he continued during a press conference.

Trump-Putin meeting planned in Hungary

The Ukrainian president arrived at the White House the day after a long phone call between the American president and Vladimir Putin, who agreed to meet soon in Budapest.

The Russian leader used this exchange to warn that a delivery of Tomahawk missiles would “significantly harm” the Russian-American relationship. These missiles have a potential range of 1,600 kilometers, five times longer than other weapons delivered to Ukraine, such as the french “scalp”. Its transfer could increase the attack capacity of the Ukrainian army on Russian territory.
