More than 700 kilometres of traffic jams had accumulated by midday, this was the peak reached on Saturday on French roads, according to Bison Futé, which classified the day as red at the national level in the sense of returning with the end of the holidays approaching.
The peak was reached at 11:50 a.m. with 734 kilometres of traffic jams. The southern motorways are particularly congested: the A9 has almost 100 kilometres of traffic jams at midday and the A7 more than 80 kilometres.
According to reports from 11:00 am on Vinci Autouroutes on the social network
Bison Futé warned that “the country’s main roads will be congested” on Saturday, especially in the south-east (mainly A7, A9 and A75) and in the west (A63, A10 and N165).
Storms call for caution
Ile-de-France is also expected to see “significant” returns.
“From mid-afternoon, traffic problems of varying severity could occur depending on the sector, particularly on the radial roads at the gates of Paris to access the ring road and the A86,” said Bison Futé, who expects traffic to be “heavy until late in the evening.”
Motorists are urged to exercise caution as thunderstorms are expected across much of France.
Twenty-four departments are on orange alert for storms from the beginning of the afternoon, from Occitania to the Grand Est: Ain, Allier, Ariège, Aveyron, Cantal, Côte-d’Or, Doubs, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Jura, Loire, Lot, Haute-Marne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, Puy-de-Dôme, Hautes-Pyrénées, Rhône, Haute-Saône, Saône-et-Loire, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, Vosges.
