A very precocious driver. In the United States, an 8-year-old girl was found in the aisles of a supermarket where she had been driving her mother’s car alone, reports NBC News.
A journey of 18 km
The family, who live in Bedford, Ohio, reported the boy missing to police at 9 a.m. on Sunday. A neighbor quickly raised the alarm: his surveillance camera had captured the image of the young girl getting into her mother’s SUV to leave the house at around 7 a.m.
Police officers from a nearby town immediately identified the vehicle in the parking lot of a Target store, a popular discount brand in the United States. The young woman was then found in the aisles of this store, safe and sound, and her parents were able to come and pick her up at the store.
Surprisingly, the 8-year-old was able to make her way alone to the supermarket, which is located in the nearby town of Bainbridge, almost 18 kilometres from her home. A route for which Google Maps predicts a travel time of 25 minutes.
A trip apparently without notable incidents, the young woman simply confessed to having collided with a mailbox on the way.
Limited damage allowed local police to joke about the situation: “I’m not sure what she bought or if she was able to use her Target app to save 5%. We let her finish her Frappuccino. We’re not doing bad,” we read in a post published on Facebook.
