Ford Puma Gen-E: the small SUV becomes 100% electric

Offered up to’here in mild hybridization, the Ford Puma passes to the’electric. A fairly compact model, but one that can have a large trunk and a range of almost 400 kilometers to gain versatility.

do’It is one of Ford’s best sellers in Europe in recent years and is going 100% electric. The small Puma, almost 4.20 meters long, falls into the category of urban SUV, compact but eager to’Offer a fairly versatile model.

This 100% electric version, called “Gen-E”, ultimately differs little from the redesigned version of the Puma, until’Here only with a mild hybrid engine, launched a little earlier this year.

Subtle design changes

Three main changes to remember. All’First, a modified design for the full LED headlights.’forehead with three small claws as well as’a grille complete with the new Ford logo, discovered on the latest Explorer.

l’The interior, for its part, takes up the positive points of the redesigned version, with a combined design.’12-inch screens for both the counters and the’touch screen. Ford’s latest system, Sync 4, is here too, with Android Auto and wireless Carplay compatibility.

The center console is free of the gearbox controls (P, R, N and D), which are located on the steering wheel. Enough to leave room for induction charging, a little’storage space and a small armrest.

Until’520 kilometers in the city

As for batteries, only one version is offered with a 43.6 kWh net capacity pack. Enough to show 376 kilometers of’Theoretical autonomy. But Ford also mentions’autonomy, always in mixed cycle (c’that is, with driving in the city and on highways) but in eco mode and no more than 105 km/h, which allows you to travel more than 400 kilometers. And even just over 520 kilometers in the urban cycle.

Recharging the battery from 10 to 80% will take only 23 minutes and a little at a time.’The front allows you to store two cables, one with a domestic socket and another with type 2 for example. In fact, it offers a quite substantial volume of 43 liters.

At launch, only one engine will be offered, with a power of 168 horsepower. Note that Ford will also offer one-pedal driving that the driver can activate depending on the chosen driving mode. A function that allows you to use the pedal almost exclusively’throttle, with regenerative braking maximized when’we free her.

A “Gigabox” to enlarge the trunk

Enough to complete the 378 liters of trunk.’rear, which in fact hides a rather gigantic space under its double bottom: an additional 145 liters, enough to store a large suitcase or two cabin suitcases. A “Gigabox” much more impressive than the “Mégabox” of the thermal Puma thanks to the’absence of’exhaust.

Ford thus highlights the storage space worthy of the D segment, that is, much larger vehicles, with a total volume of 523 liters. And it can even reach 574 liters if you fill the trunk up to’to the ceiling.

A trunk that also remains quite practical with three levels of trunk floor. A first in a high position that makes it easier to load your daily shopping, placing it, for example, at the same level as the trunk sill. Another in a low position that maximizes the volume on top of this “Gigabox”. And we can also finally clamp this floor against the bench to get a large, completely open space.

From €33,990

This model, which remains 100% Ford and is not based on the association with Volkswagen as is the case with the latest Explorer and Capri, will be launched next April in France, with a starting price announced at 33,990 euros. Produced in Romania, a priori it will be eligible for the new 2025 ecological bonus.

Ford thus completes its 100% electric range with its first small model of this type. An especially popular and expected segment for this engine in Europe.
