A Moselle town cancels 12,500 parking tickets after a “computer error”

A spate of unjustified parking tickets has overwhelmed Thionville residents. Faced with this situation, the mayor simply decided to cancel them.

An avalanche of unjustified VPs. Many residents of Thionville (Moselle) had the unpleasant surprise of receiving parking fines without having committed any offence, reveals TF1.

A merchant explains having received 30 fines on the same day, or a final bill of almost 900 euros. Another resident received 250 PV for a bill of 7,500 euros.

Many people then contacted the city hall’s parking department, which has been overwhelmed with calls since last Wednesday. Some fines date back to June, suggesting an error. Especially when those interested have verified that they have paid for their subscription.

General amnesty for this computer failure

In total, 12,500 entries were submitted in error. The problem? A computer error linked to the privatization of paid parking control since June.

As a result, the mayor made the logical decision to cancel all minutes submitted during this period. A relief for the inhabitants of Thionvillois, in particular for those from whom several hundred euros were asked.

The problem a priori solved, paid parking resumed normally in Thionville this Monday, December 9.
