Free flow toll: how to pay for your highway trip

The A13 and A14 motorways go through tolls without barriers, what is known as “free flow”, but they do not become free. Here’s how to pay for your trip to avoid a fine if you forget.

This Tuesday, December 10, the A13 and A14 motorways will be completely free. No more traditional barriers and therefore no more necessary stops for motorists. In their place, free flow toll sections, with gantries that record the passage of your vehicle, summarizes Sanef, operator of these highways.

Next, the vehicle registration number is registered, there are three ways to pay for the trip.

What penalty or fine?
Please note that if you do not use an electronic toll plate or are registered in a Sanef account for automatic payment, you must pay for your trip within 72 hours of passing through, under penalty of a fine. Don’t panic if your route does not appear immediately when you enter your license plate, Sanef gives a maximum period of 24 hours for the tolls to appear when you enter your license plate.
In case of non-payment, a notice is sent to the address corresponding to the registration document, and 10 euros must be paid within 15 days following shipment, in addition to the toll amount, and 90 euros between 15 days and 2 months. In addition, the police court will apply a class IV fine of 375 euros.

Automated payment: electronic toll collection or Sanef customer account

If you have an electronic toll badge, nothing changes. In fact, the doors will recognize your small box placed behind the windshield and you will be billed as if you were passing through a traditional barrier. With the advantage of no longer having to slow down, but simply continue driving normally.

You can also create a Sanef customer account online. This will allow you to register the registration of your vehicles, with the possibility of being notified by email when you have tolls pending payment. If you check this box, an email will be sent to you the day after your visit.

For each vehicle, by providing a registration certificate (license card) or a document of use (rental contract, certificate, etc.) in your online profile, you will have access to the details of your future tickets in your basket, with points and schedules. by the way.

This is also what will allow you to activate, or not, automatic payment on your next visits by registering a bank card in your customer account.

Pay online on the Sanef website

If you don’t have a Sanef account, you can still use their website to pay for your trip.

Through the “Continue without logging in” tab you will be asked for the license plate of the vehicle used.

The tolls to pay then appear for online payment.

Nirio: pay the toll at a tobacconist’s shop

It is also possible to pay the toll at a tobacconist’s shop. There are almost 10,000 Nirio-approved FDJ payment points, with a dedicated site to find them by entering an address. Then you will only have to hand over your license plate to the merchants.

If you have exceeded the 72-hour period, you will receive a paper payment notice at home by mail to present at one of these tobacco shops approved by Nirio. Next, it will be necessary to scan the QR code of the document, paying 10 euros within a period of 15 days in addition to paying the toll and 90 euros beyond this period.

In addition to paying the toll, certain tobacconists may also allow the collection of invoices or the deposit and withdrawal of cash.
