Good news for drivers who have problems with their AdBlue tank. In fact, UFC Que Choisir received nearly 7,000 customer complaints about defects observed in diesel vehicles purchased between 2014 and 2020, mainly from Peugeot and Citroën, brands of the PSA group that has since become Stellantis.
Up to 100% compensation
The consumer protection association announced this Friday, December 20, that it had won its case for all European customers to be compensated at the same level. Compensation was initially offered only in Italy and the UFC Que Choisir required it for all clients in Europe, especially in France.
“Stellantis thus undertakes to compensate the victims, with compensation reaching 100%, but varying depending on the age of the vehicle, the kilometers traveled but also the date of replacement of the AdBlue tank,” it states in an article. UFC president Que Choisir Marie-Amandine Stévenin.
A defect in this deposit could cause the crystallization of this additive that is used to decontaminate diesel engines. Enough to cause expensive repairs: on average 1,000 euros and up to 3,000 euros for certain customers.
Different scenarios
First scenario, vehicles out of warranty for less than 5 years from delivery (that is, less than 3 years of expired warranty) and with less than 150,000 kilometers traveled: the cost of repairs is 100% covered.
Second situation: for vehicles out of warranty for more than 5 years (that is, more than 3 years of expired warranty), the coverage decreases depending on the mileage and within the limit of 210,000 kilometers.
For the latter case, the support will be between 30 and 90%, specifies the Auto Infos site, adding that a retroactive reimbursement is planned for those who had already received compensation lower than these proposed levels since the beginning of 2021.
An online platform to calculate your compensation entitlements will open in mid-January 2025 by following this link.
