Renault’s talks with its Japanese partner Nissan are “complex” but both want to “stay together”. This Wednesday, at BFM Business, the CEO of Renault Luca de Meo reassured about the ongoing conversations with his partner Nissan, to imagine the future of the Alliance formed by the two groups for more than 20 years.
“Evolving the Alliance”
“We have been discussing for a few months” in particular with the general manager of Nissan Makoto Uchida, about (the path) to “develop the alliance”, and “the important thing is that we have agreed that we must continue together”, assured Luca de Meo, who recently spoke of the need for a “more equal” relationship between the partners.
The exact content of the stumbling block discussions has, of course, not been made public. Relations have been very difficult between the partners for several years, heating up with the arrival of new leaders.
“Complex discussions by definition”
But Renault would seek to free up liquidity to invest more in the technologies of the car of the future, it could reduce its participation in the capital of Nissan to 15% compared to 43% today. In return, the Japanese manufacturer, which owns 15% of Renault, would invest in Ampere, the entity that will bring together Renault’s electrical activities in France and which Luca de Meo formalized on Tuesday.
However, no timetable has been given for a communication between the two partners.
“The timetable is dictated by the fact that we managed to have an agreement on hundreds of issues,” Luca de Meo developed.
“These discussions are quite complex by definition,” the Renault CEO continued.
