This is, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated launches of the moment: Tesla has just opened orders for the redesigned version of its model Y. A model that had already appeared at the beginning of January in the manufacturer’s catalog in China and Hong Kong.
A new beginning for Tesla’s sales success
After the Model 3 sedan, which allowed Tesla to become a leader in electric, this SUV version simply crushed the competition. After a launch in the United States in 2020 in full Covid, and in Europe the following year, this vehicle has in some ways demonstrated the versatility of electricity: a family car, with autonomy, recharging times, but also prices, corresponding to the expectations of the moment.
Which just stands out as the car, all engines combined, the best-selling car worldwide in 2023, the first for a 100% electric car. A performance in the correct pass that will be renewed for 2024 while waiting for the final figures.

In total, Tesla announces more than 3.5 million Model Y products to date, across three continents, North America, Asia and Europe. This SUV is also the first Tesla car made on our continent, at the Berlin factory in Germany since 2022.
But with sales falling slightly last year and a leader spot lost in Europe, Tesla had to update its bestseller to allow it to stay at the top. Hence this new Model Y, which Tesla says it has redesigned from A to Z.
An extensively modified design
This new model keeps the silhouette of the previous one there. It grows by just over 4 centimeters to approach 4.80 meters, but still introduces important design changes. What a break with a certain tiredness, the reverse of the classic medal of highly successful models that we end up seeing too much daily.
What is already happening is this new completely redesigned front. A new light bar at the end of the hood and reminiscent of the Cybertruck, its specially designed truck or CyberCab, this 100% autonomous car without a steering wheel recently revealed by Elon Musk.
This high beam banner is made up of three different parts and participates in the improved aerodynamics of the whole, with also wider air inlets at the bottom of the shield.

An eagerly awaited development for current Model Y owners is a new bumper camera on the front. It allows the driver to have a direct view of what is right in front of the hood and completes the view available on the central screen to better repair when parking, for example. With a small premium detail: a windshield washer and integrated heating to ensure its operation in all conditions.
At the rear, we find this desire to distinguish ourselves from the Model 3, with AS at the front an unprecedented light signature.

Tesla presents this light banner as a world first, “an indirect lighting system with an external reflection that projects light from the taillights onto a specific wall lamp.” An element that turns out to be quite modern and aesthetic.
The already gigantic trunk with 818 liters gains in modularity with two buttons for the rear seat seats and reassembles them automatically.
An interior that rises in the markets
As in the improved Model 3, Tesla highlights the increase in its interior in this new Model Y. There are premium and durable materials, such as aluminum or different textiles, as well as customizable ambient lighting.

We will also note the announced progress in terms of soundproofing with the introduction of acoustic glass on each surface and specific materials
The two front seats have been redesigned, they are now ventilated as well as being heated.
Return of the flashing lever
Good surprise, which had already been seen with the first photos released in China, the flashing lever makes its return. It had been removed in the improved Model 3 with touch-sensitive touches proving to be impractical to use. We now hope to find this convenient flashing mode on the Model 3.

Switching between modes (forward, reverse, neutral walk, parking) is done from the right of the touch screen.
A key on the steering wheel also allows you to directly access images from the vehicle’s cameras.

At the rear, we find the touch screen introduced in the improved Model 3: an 8-inch screen where passengers can find access to air conditioning or entertainment functions, with access to games or videos of audio services or services.
A high level release version
Orders are open for a fairly high launch version, offered from 60,990 euros. A limited edition (a priori more in duration than in the number provided), with great autonomy (568 km) and wheel drive.
There are no horsepower or KW in the Tesla, but 0 to 100 km/h was advertised in 4.3 seconds, versus 5 seconds in the previous Model Y.
Other more affordable versions, in the propulsion version, should be launched with Stride, but Tesla has not yet given a schedule for this evolution of the catalog in Europe.
