It is one of the most anticipated models of 2025: the new R4. After the promising commercial beginnings of the R5 launched last year and At the top of electricity sales from the beginning of the yearThis model that is based on the same technical base also wants to find its place in the Diamond brand range.
A further R5 family
We will quickly go to design, after discovering This new R4 in the World Cup. Like the R5, it offers a modern reinterpretation in the Renault 4 launched in the 1960s and was sold in more than 8 million copies worldwide until the early 90s.
The front panel completely reflects this retro-fouturist approach, with a rack that replaces the chrome with a banner of light and takes the shape of the old fires integrating for the first time for the first time an enlightened diamond.

Above all, when we could expect a simple version of SUV of the R5, this new R4 really issues its own personality. With 4.14 meters long, it is also 22 centimeters larger than its little sister in the range. What also enjoys a little more space on the back, even if the space is still quite limited with this quite compact format that requires commitments.

We also enjoy a larger trunk, with 375 liters, almost 100 more than in R5. With an additional space under the floor that allows you to store the cables and with a removable plastic tray to put, for example, dirty businesses. This trunk also offers a fairly low load threshold and a motorized rear gate, which strengthens the practical and more familiar side of this R4.

Inside, we continue very close to the general architecture of the R5 with its screen duo. We also find the same seats but with different upholstery. And always references supporting the Made in France, with a small flag on the board or the seats and, outside, a sticker “manufacture of maubeuge electricity-france” at the level of the loading hatch. After the R5 and the stage met in Douai, this R4 also embodies Renault’s investments in France.

A autonomy too limited for a mini SUV?
At the wheel, there are sensations very close to driving in the new R5. This R4 offers a little more comfort with a specific suspension adjustment and a slightly higher driving position.
We find the same battery/motor configurations, with your choice a 40 kWh battery associated with a 120 -horsepower engine (which we recently tested in the R5), or a 52 kWh battery with a 150 -horsepower engine. We tried it in this second configuration, with a theoretical autonomy of around 400 kilometers, against 300 for the small battery.

Autonomies ultimately quite close to those of the R5: Renault has worked particularly on weight reduction, with 50 kg of difference only despite its most imposing template and in aerodynamics.
In almost 250 km they traveled, mainly in the city or low speed, but with certain portions of fast roads, we consume 13 kWh per 100 kilometers, which, therefore, provides a “real” autonomy identical to the announced one.
But be careful, on the road, consumption is likely. In this use, our R4 announces just over 200 kilometers of full battery. This autonomy can be perceived as too limited to a family, on long trips. Renault then recommends resorting to its biggest models, such as Mégane or the picturesque.
2,000 euros more compared to an R5
On the price side, this new R4 begins at 30,000 euros (excluding bonds) in the evolution finish with the small battery.
For the large battery, prices begin at 33,500 euros in termination of evolution, at 35,500 euros in Techno finish and, finally, at 37,500 euros in iconic finish. It is 2,000 more than the equivalent/battery finish R5.

Deliveries should begin this summer, after an arrival of the dealer in June, and we also hope to know more about the prices and the beginning of marketing of the south -oriented version, with a highly anticipated sunroof that will represent an additional asset for this new R4 generation.
