What are the best sales models in France since January (and is not a Tesla)?

The small compact cars have dominated a French market in Declive since January. Tesla has continued winning, registering less than 10,000 records since January.

Small cars and SUV of French brands. This is how to summarize the best car sales in France since January. According to the latest barometer of the automotive platform published on June 1, the Renault Clio, the Peugeot 208 and Dacia Sandero are the three most registered models in France since January, in a gloomy market.

The 2008 Peugeot, Dacia Duster and Peugeot 3008 take the next three positions. It also takes into account the great performances of the Renault Symbioz (tenth in the ranking, with almost 14,864 records) from the Citroën C3 Electric (15, with almost 8,747 recorded copies).

A 67% decrease in records in May for Tesla

A figure to reflect those of Tesla. In fact, the Californian brand has only registered 8,207 vehicles during the first five months of the year (for two thirds, model and its consumption SUV), a sign of the rest of its commercial fall in recent months. Since January, they have been divided by two, the arrival of the new model that has failed to relaunch the machine at this time.

If sales have collapsed since the beginning of the year (-67% in May compared to the previous year), the decrease had already begun a few months ago. A year ago, in May 2024, the Tesla Model and (of the previous generation) occupied the 19th position, with 9,360 registered vehicles, even according to the PFA barometer, before finally climbing in the Top 10 throughout the year, with 28,577 vehicles sold.

“There is no shame to have a tesla”

An aging range and the political position of Elon Musk explain the disenchantment for the brand in recent months. A trend found in many European markets. The only exception: Norway. Last month, according to the Norwegian Information Council (OFV), Tesla tripled its sales thanks to the new model and, more than 18% of new car sales.

“If we observe Tesla’s sales in Norway, both for the month of May and for the current year, we distinguish ourselves from the rest of Europe, where sales of this brand have experienced a remarkable fall,” said Øvind Solberg Thorsen the director of this professional organization.

“The Norwegians do not like musk, but they don’t experience shame in having a Tesla,” said Jonathan Parr, an analyst at the Reborn used car dealership, with the TV2 channel, quoted by AFP.
