The Ministry of Transportation announced on Tuesday that it has ordered car manufacturers to all brands that immobilize 800,000 additional vehicles in France equipped with Takata airbags, involved in several accidents, which causes 1.7 million of the number of vehicles led by the prohibition of circulating for this reason.
The cars in question are all those equipped with airbags considered at risk in Corsica and abroad, as well as the cars that date from 2011 in the metropolitan territory out of corsa.
At the same time, the Ministry requested the general withdrawal of all cars equipped with a risk at risk throughout France, or 600,000 more vehicles.
The airbags at risk are, as well as those that have caused accidents, with without drying ammonium nitrate.
2.5 million vehicles in total
These ads provide 2.5 million the number of vehicles led by a retirement in France, including 1.7 million for a “stop”, an obligation to immobilize the car.
“This decision aims to send a clear and firm message to the manufacturers, while encouraging the owners of interested vehicles for their vehicle to review as soon as possible,” the Ministry of Transportation insisted on its press release.
This follows the accident on June 11 in Reims in which a 36 -year -old woman was killed by the explosion of her airbag. The 13 -year -old rear passenger was slightly injured.
This is the second fatal accident in continental France linked to these airbags that caused a total of 18 dead and 25 injured, including 16 deaths and 24 injured abroad, according to the Ministry of Transportation.
Since 2014, the industrial scandal of these airbags, which have caused a series of deaths, has been shaking the automotive sector worldwide.
Due to a very aged gas, this safety team is supposed to protect passengers in case of shock, can explode, especially in warm and humid climates, projecting parts of the drivers.
Inspection mission
Many manufacturers had to immobilize millions of vehicles throughout the planet, to replace defective airbags.
After the Reims accident, Philippe Tabarot’s Minister of Transportation had requested the immobilization of all Citroën C3 and DS3 that required an airbag change, or 100,000 vehicles.
Philippe Tabarot launched an inspection mission on the subject in February. Soon he will reach his conclusions, in the light of which the minister does not exclude making other decisions.
Meanwhile, the minister will take a decree in the next few days so that each motorist worried about an immobilization measure can benefit from a courtesy vehicle or to take care of his rental car such as the summer item.
