“Incidents potentially linked to failures”: barely launched, Tesla’s robotaxis is already in the US road safety viewfinder

Three days after the launch of Tesla Robotaxis, American Road Safety is already investigating the service after the report of several incidents.

The American Road Safety Agency (NHTSA) asked Tesla to count it after the report of several incidents with their driver -free taxi, first launched on Sunday in Austin (Texas) with an extremely limited service in this stadium.

“The NHTSSA is aware of the Incident Report and is in contact with the manufacturer to obtain additional information,” the AFP regulator told Tuesday.

He “investigates incidents potentially linked to safety failures” and “will take the necessary measures to protect road safety.”

Tesla launched its first and expected Robotaxi service on Sunday in Austin, only ten vehicles would operate at the beginning, with selected customers and in an urban perimeter.

Videos that show speed, circulation of the wrong way …

But videos have been published on social networks that show some of these vehicles that commit road code (speeding, circulation of incorrect way, etc.).

The transport service of the Municipality of Austin told AFP “aware of the videos” and having received “reports of incidents related to Tesla Robotaxis” through their device, which allows residents and emergency services to avoid it.

Tesla’s action fell 2.08% around 6 PM GMT (8 pm in France) on Tuesday. He had jumped 8.23% the previous day after the launch of the Robotaxi, qualified as success by his boss Elon Musk.

The NHTSSA recalled that it was not required by the pre-operating legislation “of new technologies or” automotive “systems.

According to her, “the manufacturers certify that each vehicle respects the rigorous NHTSA security standards.”

An ongoing survey since 2024

Since October 2024, he has been investigating the completely autonomous driving system (FSD) of Tesla after fatal accidents. Echoing the planned launch of the Robotaxi, he asked for information in May “to understand the technologies and operating uses” of his autonomous vehicles.

Tesla received the order to respond no later than June 19 and, according to file documents published on the NHTSA website, the manufacturer responded on this date. But the content of his response is not revealed, Tesla considering that “the whole document contains confidential commercial information.”

“The NHTSSA is examining the information provided by Tesla,” he said Tuesday.

The Robotaxi service is guaranteed at the moment with the Y. pending model of Cybercab, whose production must begin in 2026. Presented in October, this driver’s electric machine has no steering wheel and pedals.
