A doubly symbolic speed record. The fastest standard car in the world is now electric and Chinese. A Yangwang brand supercar, which belongs to the Giant Byd, has just reached 496.22 km/h on a trial track in Germany.
The thermal beaten
An action that places this model, the Yangwang U9 Xtreme (or U9X), a notch above the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which had been measured at 490,484 km/h in 2019, with a W16 8L of 1,600 horsepower. A model marketed by the following in 30 copies and around 3.5 million euros per unit, which officially makes it a “standard” car.
This is also the case of Yangwang U9, a model already marketed in China since the beginning of 2024 and soon in this version “Xtreme” with 30 copies. This high -performance version had already made a first attempt a few weeks ago, winning the speed record in the electricity category.
Chinese brands advance
The Yangwang U9X has in particular an architecture of 1,200 volts and an LFP battery of ultra high voltage of 1,200 volts “with an exceptional discharge rate of 30c”, which means that the battery can download in just 2 minutes and, therefore, provide a large amount of energies to the four engines. These can reach 30,000 rpm with a total power of 3,000 horsepower.
Recently, it was also a model of another Chinese brand, Xiaomi, which had distinguished itself in the Nürburgring circuit. With a time of 7’04”957, his athlete Su7 had won the best time last June for an electric car in the North Loop.
Experts who aim to improve the image of these Chinese brands in the world and in particular in Europe. If Byd is already present, Xiaomi plans to launch its first vehicles in this market in 2027.
