XPEng models will soon be launched from a factory in Europe. A local production that should materialize in the coming weeks, even days, has confirmed a spokesman for the Chinese brand.
An Austrian subcontractor
Last week, it was his subcontractor, Magna, who announced this association signed with Xpeng with “serial production of these new Smart electric vehicles” that must begin in “Third quarter 2025”, said a press release. First copies that, therefore, must be released from the assembly channels in the next few days, on October 1, marking the beginning of the fourth quarter.
As expected, they will be the SUV G6 and G9, which XPEng has been selling in Europe since 2024, which will occur in this Graz factory, Austria. Magna evokes a “complete assembly” and not in the kit, as Leapmotor had tried in the past before resigning.
First Chinese cars “made in Europe”
While its assembly project in Europe seemed less advanced than some of its competitors, Xpeng could be one of the first Chinese brands to produce in Europe. Which can potentially benefit from ecological bonus in France, but also avoid additional customs tasks that apply to electric cars produced in China since last year.
Good news also for Magna, who currently brings together class G Mercedes, but had just lost several important contracts with the programmed stop of the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra and the end of the production of the Jaguar I-Pace and BMW 5 series, recalls the Journal Automobile.
It was the Chery group that started this European Chinese car production. Since last year, it is the models quite marketed in Spain that leave the channels of the old Nissan factory in Barcelona, such as Omoda 5 and Jaecoo 7 or Cars of the Ebro Motors Brand. Other models, of Dr. Dr. Italian, are assembled in kits provided by Chery in Italy.
Byd, meanwhile, announced the beginning of the production of a factory in Hungary at the end of 2025, where he had to put together his little Dolphin Surf.
Another Chinese brand, Leapmotor, with Stellantis as an export partner, points to a production in Spain. Finally, MG (SAIC Group) has long shown its desire to produce locally in Europe, but without a project confirmed to date.
