Stop to leave better? The European Giant of the Stellantis car confirmed on Wednesday at the AFP the temporary arrest of several of its European factories, including that of Eisenach, Germany, in a context of a gloomy European market.
An eisenach (east), where the brand’s Opel brand occurs, the detained production will refer to two days in October, “probably 1 and 2”, just before the long weekend linked to the national day, Stellantis said.
Objective: “Adapt the production rate to a difficult European market, while managing shares in the most effective way possible before the end of the year,” said the World Cup Fourth of Automobiles.
It is one of the five European factories involved by temporary production stops, according to the group, which confirmed the information published by the French economic newspaper Les Echos.
On Wednesday, Stellantis told AFP that the Zaragoza factory in Spain will be closed from October 6 to 10, explaining to adapt the “rhythm of production of some of its factories in Europe.”
The Polish factory in Tychy must also close for eight days soon.
Stellantis will also temporarily suspect the production of Fiat Panda and Alfa Tonale at the end of September and in October in its Pomigliano site, near Naples.
In France, the Poissy factory, the last automotive assembly plant Ile-de-France, will stop from October 13 to 31 for the same reasons.
Dismissal fears
These decisions suggest to unions the future closure of group factories, in a very difficult context for the European automotive industry, between the commercial war, the Mediast market and the aggressive competition of China.
It is “unheard of in Poissy”, a factory where Opel Mokka, insured AFP Jean-Pierre Mercier, representative of the French South Union.
In addition to Stellantis, the Volkswagen giant, the first European car manufacturer, reviewed its forecasts by 2025 on Friday, weighted by its Porsche subsidiary that slows its ambitions in electricity.
The group prepares the abolition of 35,000 jobs in Germany in the flagship VW brand and the final production stop in two of its factories.
