What aid can buyers of electric cars benefit from in 2023? Although the maximum ecological bonus was going to drop from 6,000 to 5,000 euros on June 30, 2022, this amount was finally maintained until December 31.
A bonus “for everyone” that drops to 5000 euros
As of January 1, 2023, this aid will therefore be reduced to 5,000 euros for a new 100% electric vehicle purchased for less than 47,000 euros. For vehicles sold between 47,000 and 60,000 euros, the subsidy, until now of 2,000 euros, will go to 1,000 euros.
The bonus for electric light commercial vehicles will remain at 7,000 euros.
On the other hand, 2023 should mark the end of the bonus for plug-in hybrid vehicles with at least 50 kilometers of autonomy and sold at a maximum of 50,000 euros, which could benefit from a bonus of 1,000 euros.
Few details about the bonus 7000 euros
But at a time when the French are being encouraged to switch to a newer, less polluting model, this reduction in bonus might come as a surprise.
Therefore, Emmanuel Macron had wanted to accompany this measure with an increase in the bonus for the French who would need it most.
“Because we want the electric car to be accessible to everyone, we are even going to increase the ecological bonus from 6,000 to 7,000 euros for half of the homes, the most modest ones,” he had declared in an interview with Les Echos published at the opening of the last Paris Motor Show.
Second-hand bonus, conversion bonus… the great blur
Since October, no details on this specific measure have been released. The same applies to the development of other schemes such as the conversion bonus or the bonus for used vehicles, for which the dedicated pages on the official public service sites were not updated a few hours before the change to the new year.
Although many French cities are due to introduce a low emission zone in the coming years and thus reduce the circulation of the most polluting vehicles, it is difficult to imagine a drop in the conversion premium. The latter allows you to recover up to 5,000 euros against scrapping an old vehicle, in addition to the ecological bonus.
The same goes for the bonus for used electric cars: its amount of 1000 euros should not decrease in any case while this market is also developing more and more.
