The fuel allowance of 100 euros, which replaces the general discount that ended on December 31, can be requested from January 16 on the impots.gouv.fr site, according to a decree published on Wednesday in the Official Gazette.
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced at the beginning of December that the fuel bonus would be replaced at the beginning of January by an allocation of 100 euros reserved for the 10 million most modest workers, through aid paid in one go, by 2023, in relation to with households located in the “first five deciles” of income, that is, a reference tax income of less than 14,700 euros in 2021.
The Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, later mentioned the date of January 16 for this change. This Wednesday, a decree published in the Official Gazette confirms “the creation of a fuel bonus for workers who use a vehicle for professional purposes […] intended to limit the effects of rising fuel costs for households using a vehicle for business purposes”.
An envelope of 1,000 million euros
The text specifies that the compensation request may be “formulated between January 16, 2023 and February 28, 2023 by electronic means using a form specifically made available to applicants at the tax site.
It will be “paid by the General Directorate of Public Finance, after processing the applications, to the bank account communicated to the Tax Administration for Income Tax by the tax household to which the eligible applicant belongs.”
This aid applies to any type of vehicle, including two-wheelers. It represents an endowment of around 1 billion euros, Elisabeth Borne said. The general reduction of the tax on fuels, which expired at the end of December, has already cost the State some 8,000 million euros, or “the equivalent of the budget of the Ministry of Justice”, the Minister of Public Accounts, Gabriel Attal, had specified. .
