In detail, the average price of diesel in France fell 5.6 cents, to a pump price of 1.8873 euros per liter. For its part, the unleaded 95-E10 fell 1.1 cents, to an average price of 1.8996 euros per liter.

A drop just before the embargo on Russian diesel

As we can see in our graph that shows the evolution of the two main fuels consumed in France, it is the first time since June 10, 2022 that the average price of diesel is at a lower price than gasoline, as is usually the case. case. .

The price of oil also continued to fall last week, with a barrel of North Sea Brent at $83.2, down $3 from the previous week.

It is difficult to know if this return to a cheaper diesel than gasoline will last over time. The European embargo on Russian diesel has been in force since Sunday, February 5. However, the sector had anticipated this situation to find new sources of supply. Suppliers in the Gulf countries in particular, with diesel prices more expensive than in Russia, which recently justified the fact that gasoline, much of it refined in France, was found at a lower price at the pump .
